MOBILE CAMERA SETTING-TIME LAPSE-BASIC OF MOBILE PHOTOGRAPHY
Now-a-days the handiest, comfortable and all-in-one camera means
a mobile camera which everyone has. After so many requests, on behalf of
TECHNIBAS, I am writing here about some tips for mobile photography.
Every mobile has its best camera. I won’t go for which one has the best camera. I respect everyone’s judgment before going to buy mobiles. The mobile camera has its lens with liquid field crystal, not overall glass so that we get distortion always. But again, playing with distortion in wide-angle mode is amazing. Recent mobiles come with more than one lens and sensors for a better result. You cannot do optical zooming through one lens as it is very slim in build. The manufacturers divide lenses into wide-angle, telephoto, and macro segments. You can select from the mobile camera mode. Although you could choose different apps from play store and apple store for better camera effects and filters. But I recommend you click a photo with default camera personalization through your mobile and after that edit according to your desired effects. You would be able to get better quality.
Many editing apps are there in the google play store and apple store
you could download. The most popular app nowadays is Snapseed all in one app. I
use Photoshop Express for actual photography effects. You could also ask about
it in the comment section of Technibas about the editing. We need more clarity,
contrast, composition, and color corrections. I feel comfortable in Photoshop
Express. But remember don’t increase any option more than 25% because of the
small sensor of your mobile your photo will be noisier.
Another concern is you shouldn’t zoom in while using a mobile camera. A mobile camera does not have optical zooming. Mobile cameras give you digital zooming and it's like cropping the main resolution of your sensor. You would get the horrific less resolution photo which will be of no use. I recommend, you can crop it in Photoshop on 300 dpi resolution, you will get better resolution there. Most people make this mistake while clicking the photo. This is a very important technical tip. Now discuss the different parts of the camera mode.
How do you set your camera - First comes rear and front camera settings. You should select
the highest resolution as your camera provides you and the ratio should be 4:3
for still photos and 16:9 for video. 4:3 ratio is the best proportion for
mobile photography. Professional-level or printing the ratio is 2:3 of width
and height so you would get white border both sides when you print 4:3 ratio
photo for getting rid of this we need photoshop. For the front camera the same
settings, I recommend.
Now comes the video setting where resolution is concerned. You
have to understand the framing of videos and frames per second here. Three
steps of resolutions we have here like HD- 1280x720 pixel, FHD-1920x1080 pixel,
and UFD or ultra HD or 4k resolutions- 3840x2160 pixel. The last one is the
most recent and crystal-clear format of video recording and it’s the heaviest
format. You should have enough space for recording on your mobile. Another
format is HEVC which takes less space than other formats like MP4 but it’s not
playable in few digital players. You need a converter where MP4 is the most
flexible format.
Next is the frame per second and how it works. Video is the
collection of photos played one by one by your digital players. So, per second
as much as the frame, the video you give will be smooth. The normal setting is
30 frames per second for HD and FHD where 60 frames per second for 4K or UHD
videos. But if you record slow-motion video you need more frames like 980
frames per second at least for smooth playback, be sure you have enough memory
in your mobile.
Time-lapse
- As we are talking about the frames then let’s talk about the fewer frames
than the previous discussion of video recording. Time-lapse is a type of
recording where we record a video for a very long time but convert it into a
very short time like a recording of 2 hours is converted into a 30-second
video. It's another awesome option most of the mobiles have nowadays. Here we
set the frame interval with different timing like after every 6 seconds, 12
seconds, 24 seconds, etc. It means your camera will record one single frame
after this time interval and after recording the software will attach the
frames in 30 frames per second rate. So how does a two hours video become a few
second videos? A small calculation is here like -
1 minute = 60 second
1 hour = 60 minutes
1 hour = 3600 seconds
2 hours = 7200 seconds
Suppose I record a
video with 2 second time interval then the total frames will be in 2 hours
video like -
7200/2 frames = 3600 frames.
I need a video with 30
frames per second, then how many seconds of video I will get with a total of
3600 frames. It’s like -
3600/30 second= 120 seconds= 2 minutes
Therefore, you would get a two minutes video with a total recording of 2 hours video.
Panorama - It’s a combination of photos of the same horizontal
proportion. Sometimes you need a wide photo of your surroundings but your
mobile’s wide-angle lens does not cover the same. You may use the panorama mode
from your camera setting then. The basic concept of taking the photos in this
mode is like set the panorama mode in your mobile then follow the mobile
diagram on the screen and set the starting point of your subject and click on
the capture button then pan your mobile at the same proportion till the end
portion of your subject in side by side or ups and down direction but not in
mixed direction. After that mobile will attach all the photos and make a large
panoramic photo. Nothing more than that, very easy.
Wide Selfie
- The same panoramic effect works for the front camera when you need a huge
group in a single frame when your wide selfie camera does not permit to cover.
HDR - It is high dynamic range imaging produced digitally in your mobile. When we take photos the highlighted area becomes more highlighted and the dark area becomes darker. But with the help of HDR processing, we get a balanced luminosity control overall image. The control of high tonal value and low tonal value is called the dynamic range image.
Control of Few Options
- As soon as you open
the camera on your screen you would get the exposure or brightness control bar
where you can adjust the brightness of your images. Be careful while using the
bar, you would get overexposed or underexposed images where an image will be
full of noise because of a very small sensor. You also get ISO control, but
don’t increase so much, again your image will be full of noise. I recommend you
click photos on the lowest ISO control.
After clicking you
need a little adjustment like increasing contrast, color balance, highlights,
shadows, etc. and your images will be ready for the exhibit at social
media or other digital media. If you are planning to print some photos, crop or
recompose your image at 2:3 proportion with your desired size. This is about
the basics of mobile cameras. I would like to write in detail about each
setting. If you have any advice or doubt feel free to write on the comment box,
I would like to hear from you. TECHNIBAS is always with you to guide you to a
next-level future tech.
